Lawn Busters FAQ's
Learn more about becoming a Lawn Buster
What is the Lawn Busters Program?
Lawn Busters is a volunteer program that matches seniors with volunteers to assist them with lawn mowing.
Why volunteer with Lawn Busters?
Lawn mowing can be challenging for seniors with physical limitations. Volunteering with Lawn Busters is a great way for you to make a difference in the life of a senior. Providing assistance with lawn care helps seniors remain in their homes longer, prevents injuries, and encourages community connections.
Who should volunteer for Lawn Busters?
Volunteers may be individuals, families, teams or groups, who enjoy working outside, want to make community connections and prefer a flexible volunteer schedule.
What yard maintenance tasks are included in this volunteer position?
The minimum requirement for volunteering with Lawn Busters is mowing the grass. It is your decision if you would also like to offer help with other yard maintenance tasks that the resident requests - such as raking, trimming, weeding, etc.
Do I need to use my own lawn care equipment?
In most cases you will use the lawn equipment and tools provided by the resident you volunteer to help.
How often do I need to volunteer?
Because the frequency of lawn care is dependent on a number of factors including the amount of precipitation, rate of growth, personal preferences, availability, etc., it will be important for you to discuss this with the senior you are matched with. Agree on an arrangement that works best for both of you.
How long is the volunteer commitment and what if I have vacations planned?
Volunteers are encouraged to commit to mowing the lawn for seniors for the entire spring and summer. We understand that vacation and other commitments may sometimes impact your availability. Please notify Family and Community services of any dates that you are not available to volunteer so that we can attempt to find another volunteer to help while you are away.
