Strathcona County Emergency Services provides a full range of emergency response, which includes:
- fire supression
- rescue response
- emergency medical service at Advanced Life Support levels
- dangerous goods response
And conducts:
- 9-1-1 communications
- fire and arson investigation
- fire inspection
- emergency preparedness
- fire fighter recruitment and training
- public safety education
When a 9-1-1 call is received, the Emergency Communications Officer quickly determines where and what the emergency is. They decide what units are closest to the emergency and crews are dispatched. If the emergency is in the rural areas, part-time firefighters from Ardrossan or South Cooking Lake are dispatched, and full-time crews from Stations 1, 4 and/or 5 are sent as well. This method ensures a quick response time in rural areas. When both crews arrive on scene, the severity of the call is assessed and resources are allocated as required.
Our members are fully cross-trained and qualified in fire, rescue and emergency medical response, offering Strathcona County an integrated and seamless service. Emergency personnel responding to an incident are trained both as firefighters and medical technicians. As they arrive on scene, they are able to undertake firefighting, rescue, dangerous goods control, medical care and any other intervention that improves patient care both on scene and in transit to the hospital.
Our fire fighters are assigned to multiple units at the same time and may respond in any capacity on any call. This makes Strathcona County Emergency Services a truly integrated service.
A fully trained Fire Fighter EMT and Fire Fighter Paramedic is a skilled professional who uses modern equipment, methods and techniques to undertake a range of activities to preserve life and property. Each time our personnel are called to an emergency, they must be prepared to utilize the skills developed through extensive and thorough training.
