Elk Island Retreat

Whether you're simply looking for a unique camping experience with family and friends or for a taste of our country's native history, you will find it at the Elk Island Retreat. Elk Island retreat is the only campground in Strathcona County that offers tipi camping. Guests can book any of the 5 tipis for overnight camping in advance or can book a day use site. Trapper cabins are also available, the rustic log framed cabins have 12 wooden built-in bunks, wooden floors and a wood burning stove to provide comfortable year round camping opportunities. Each cabin also features a picnic shelter, fire pit, stocked woodshed and propane barbecue. Tree covered tenting sites are also available and firewood is included in the tenting rates. 36 fully serviced RV sites are also offered at daily, weekly and monthly rates. Aboriginal resources persons provide Aboriginal Cultural programs at the Elk Island Retreat. Guests can enhance their camping experience by learning more about the Aboriginal Culture through programs and activities provided right at your site.

Sandy Beach Campground
Elk Island National Park
Sandy Beach Campground is located in the Astontin Lake Area of Elk Island National Park. The campground offers 77 semi-services sites (15 walk-in tenting, 23 recreational vehicles and 39 general purpose sites) as well as an un-serviced overflow area. Flush toilets, free showers, and picnic shelters are located in the main portion of the campground, firewood is provided, however is unsplit, so bring an axe. Visitors are strongly encouraged to book their sites in advance.
