The way in which you will access audio and video files depends on the speed of your Internet Connection.
Dial-up speed
Many people in Strathcona County use a telephone dial-up connection for the Internet.
If you just click on an audio or video link with dial-up, your Web browser or even your whole computer may stall because the files are so large.
For every one megabyte (MB) or 1,000 kilobytes (KB) of file size, the download time on dial-up may be around five minutes.
As a result, dial-up users should first download an audio or video file before listening or viewing. Here's how this is done:
- Click the audio or video link with your RIGHT mouse button.
- Select "save target as" (Internet Explorer) or "save link as" (Firefox).
- Choose a folder to store the file and click "Save".
- After downloading, click "Open" to view and print.
- You can also look at the file again at a later time because it has been stored in your computer. Just enter the folder where you downloaded and double click on the file.
High-speed
If you have a high-speed connection, you can click on an audio or video link and the file will automatically open up Windows Media Player.
You can also save a copy to your computer by clicking "File" "Save a Copy." When you are finished with the file, just close the window to return to the website.
