Delay in waste collection

Residents experienced delay in waste collection

Over the past few weeks, waste collection in some areas was delayed. In some areas, collection was behind a day or two.

At this time of year, collection volumes can increase over 65 per cent because of the collection of grass clippings.

The County's contractor is experiencing staffing shortages which caused the delay in pick up.

"We are working with the contractor to look at options to address staffing shortages and maintain service levels," says Mayor Cathy Olesen. "We thank residents for their patience."

Residents are asked to leave waste and clear bags out for collection by 7:30 a.m. Residents can bring grass clippings and yard waste to Streambank Avenue Recycling Station located at 420 Streambank Avenue.

An alternative to collecting grass is to grasscycle. Simply leave the clippings on the lawn; they quickly decompose in two or three days. The clippings add valuable nutrients back into the lawn.

Collection are posted on the County website at www.strathcona.ab.ca/utilities. Inquiries from residents can be directed to 449-5514.
