Youth Rock! in Strathcona County

As part of national Youth Week, Strathcona County is celebrating how Youth Rock! with an activity-filled day that includes skateboarding demos, kickboxing, art work and a Much Music Video Dance Party. The Youth Rock! event is at Millennium Place on May 5, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Youth are invited to enjoy drop-in BMX and Skateboarding demos and lessons starting at 1 p.m. followed by drop-in Zumba, Cardio kickboxing and Dodgeball at 4 p.m. Other activities on site include an art project, where youth can paint furniture and create a collage, beginning at 2 p.m. or take part in an Improv challenge from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The evening will feature a Poetry Slam and Karaoke starting at 5 p.m., and then guests can dance the night away during the Much Music Video Dance Party from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The regular Millennium Place admission fee grants access to all the activities during the Youth Rock! event.
“I am constantly impressed with the talent, drive and determination of the 8,000 youth who live in Strathcona County,” says Mayor Linda Osinchuk. “This event is our chance to thank our younger generation for their unique and influential contributions to our community.”
Throughout the day, youth are invited to take part in building a food castle with a donation of a canned food item for the Strathcona Food Bank.
