Strathcona County Transit prepares for public consultation
Strathcona County Transit has begun work on a Transit Master Plan as a first step in ensuring it is providing appropriate service to the County. The plan will involve gathering input from the public and stakeholders, as well as conducting a technical analysis. Public consultation will begin in March and include open houses and surveys.
The Transit Master Plan will provide strategic direction and guiding principles, identify appropriate service levels and service design, and analyze operating and capital costs. Draft recommendations are expected in late 2010, with an implementation strategy to follow.
“We have taken a number of steps to improve our transit service over the past several years,” says Mayor Cathy Olesen. “Examples include replacing aging equipment with high-efficiency buses that provide better low-floor access. This study will enhance our efforts to improve service, and we have every confidence it will lead to even better transit services for our residents.”
Through a competitive selection process, Genivar/Entra, a leading Canadian engineering services firm with experience in transportation planning, has been chosen to work with the County on this plan. The company has offices in Sherwood Park.
