Strathcona County Wins Marketing Alberta Award
Strathcona County was recognized at the 2012 Economic Developers Alberta Awards of Excellence. The Strathcona County Traveller brochure - created in partnership with Travel Alberta - won the EDA Marketing Alberta Award in the Creative Innovations category (large community). The annual awards ceremony took place on April 12, 2012 during the Minister’s Dinner & Awards Banquet.
The EDA Awards of Excellence recognizes best practices in economic development from across the province. The Marketing Alberta Awards category measures marketing efforts that support local economic development. The Strathcona County Traveller (a print and online brochure) promotes a range of local businesses such as bed and breakfasts, local food producers, farmers markets, recreation areas and arts and culture programs. It was created in the summer of 2011, and 2,000 copies have been distributed throughout the province.
"This award will promote Strathcona County on the provincial stage and beyond,” says Mayor Linda Osinchuk. “The County is pleased to market the excellent work being done by Alberta’s tourism operators."
The criteria for the award measured the effectiveness of promotional material in meeting marketing goals. The jury evaluated visual appeal, marketing strategy, production quality, as well as measured results.
“This was a great opportunity to recognize the role that tourism plays in economic development,” says Gerry Gabinet, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “We formed a key relationship with Travel Alberta and with our Recreation Parks and Culture department to collaboratively showcase Strathcona County across Alberta.”
This is the second consecutive year that Strathcona County has won at the EDA Awards of Excellence. In 2011, Strathcona County was awarded the Alex Metcalf Award for the completion of the Shell Scotford Upgrader Expansion.
