1. What is the Strathcona County Seniors' Property Tax Rebate?
Strathcona County Council has again approved funding for the 2012 year to support low-income seniors who own their own homes. The Strathcona County Property Tax Rebate Program is a flat-rate rebate available to low- income seniors' households.

2. Am I eligible?
A Strathcona County senior will be eligible for a property tax rebate if he/she, as of May 1 of 2012:

  • is 65 years of age or older
  • resides in Strathcona County 
  • owns a residential property in Strathcona County
  • is eligible for the Alberta Seniors Benefit program

3. How much is the rebate?
The rebate is $100 per qualifying household.

4. Both my wife and I are eligible. Does this mean we will receive two cheques?

No, only one cheque per qualifying household will be issued.

5. How do I apply for the rebate?
No application is required. The program is being administered in conjunction with the Government of Alberta (Alberta Seniors and Community Supports). Alberta Seniors and Community Supports will automatically issue cheques to qualifying seniors on behalf of Strathcona County by the end of July, 2012.

6. If I don't receive my cheque in July and I think I may be eligible,who do I contact?

Cheques will be mailed out in September and December to any households that were missed for the current year only. If you believe you are eligible and do not receive your cheque, please call 780-427-7876 or visit http://www.seniors.gov.ab.ca .
